  7.     This will help you get started up and running Passport to Adventure.
  8. Included is information on installing the game on a hard disk, how to start
  9. the program, and special configuration options. Enjoy!  
  10.  
  11. System Requirements: 
  12. -------------------- 
  13.     IBM/Tandy and 100% compatibles with 640k free memory 
  14.         -graphics adaptor (Hercules, CGA, EGA, VGA, or MCGA) w/  
  15. display 
  16.         -a 1.2 Megabyte disk drive 
  17.  
  18. recommended: 
  19.     a hard drive (with 1.5 Megabytes free) 
  20.     a Microsoft(r) compatible mouse (with driver installed) 
  21.  -OR- 
  22.     a joystick

  25. To play Passport to Adventure from the floppy disk: 
  26. --------------------------------------------------- 
  27. 1.    Turn on your monitor first, then your computer. 
  28. 2.    Boot your computer with DOS.  If you have a mouse or joystick, 
  29.     make sure it is connected and the mouse driver is installed. 
  30. 3.    Insert the floppy with label side up into the disk drive. 
  31. 4.    Switch to the correct floppy drive (for example, type A: and 
  32.     press <enter>). 
  33. 5.    Type SAMPLER <enter> to start the game. 
  34.  
  35. Installing Passport to Adventure on a Hard Drive: 
  36. ------------------------------------------------- 
  37. 1.    Boot your computer.  If you have a mouse or joystick, make 
  38.     sure it is connected and the mouse driver is installed. 
  39. 2.    Insert the floppy with the label side up into drive A. 
  40. 3.    If your hard drive is drive C, type INSTALL C: <enter> 
  41.  
  42. This will create a directory called SAMPLER on your hard drive and will  
  43. copy all games files to the hard disk.  Also it will put you into the  
  44. SAMPLER directory, and prompt you with on-screen instructions to run the  
  45. Sampler. 
  46.  
  47. Loading instructions for Hard Drive: 
  48. ------------------------------------ 
  49. 1.    Turn on your monitor first, then your computer. 
  50. 2.    Boot your computer with DOS.  If you have a mouse or joystick, 
  51.     make sure it is connected and the mouse driver is installed. 
  52. 3.    Type the correct hard drive letter (for example, if you installed 
  53.     the Sampler on drive C, type C: <enter>) 
  54. 4.    Change to the Sampler directory: Type CD\SAMPLER <enter>. 
  55. 5.    Type SAMPLER <enter> to run the Sampler.

  59. Options for the Passport to Adventure: 
  60. -------------------------------------- 
  61.     Although the Sampler automatically determines which is the best  
  62. graphics mode to use, you may force the Sampler to use different options: 
  63.  
  64.     c     CGA graphics 
  65.     t     Tandy(r) graphics 
  66.     m     MCGA graphics 
  67.     e     EGA graphics 
  68.     v     VGA graphics 
  69.     k     Keyboard 
  70.     j     Joystick 
  71.     mo    Mouse 
  72.     i     Internal speaker 
  73.     ts    Tandy sounds 
  74.     g     CMS/GameBlaster sounds 
  75.     a     AdLib(tm) or CMS/SoundBlaster sounds

  77. For example, in order to play with EGA Graphics and a mouse, 
  78. type: SAMPLER e mo <enter>

  81. Choosing which game to play: 
  82. ---------------------------- 
  83.     After the Lucasfilm Games logo appears on your screen, you will see  
  84. three icons for the three games included on the disk.  Moving the cursor  
  85. (with either your mouse, joystick, or the arrows on your keyboard) over  
  86. the icons will bring up a short description of each game. 
  87.     To select a game to play, move the cursor over an icon until a  
  88. highlighted box appears around it and "click" with the mouse or joystick  
  89. button, or press <enter> (if using keyboard).  The screen will fade to  
  90. black and the selected game will begin.

  93. Keyboard Controls explained:

  96. F1            - Help 
  97. F5            - Save-Load 
  98. F6            - Sound/Music control (Loom only)
  99. F8            - Restart Sampler 
  100. ESC            - To skip certain cut-scenes 
  101. space            - To pause game 
  102. + key            - To speed up text speed 
  103. - key            - To slow down text speed

  105. Ctrl-S        - Sound Toggle (internal speaker only)
  106. Ctrl-R        - Screen Scroll Toggle 
  107. Ctrl-C        - Quit to DOS

  110. F1    -    Help 
  111.     A help screen can be brought up almost anytime by pressing F1. This 
  112. game-sensitive screen will have all the instructions needed to interact  
  113. with the current game environment.  Also available at the main menu. 
  114.  
  115. F5    -    Save-Load menu 
  116.     This screen, available at anytime, will allow you to save the  
  117. progress of each game and load any of the previously-saved games.   
  118. Play and Quit buttons are also found on the screen. 
  119.  
  120. F6    -    Sound/Music control (Loom only)
  121.     In the Loom portion of Passport to Adventure, pressing F6 will turn
  122. on and off the sounds and the music.

  124. F8    -    Restart Sampler 
  125.     This completely restarts Passport to Adventure from the menu screen.   
  126. You may want to first save your game! 
  127.  
  128. ESC    - Skip sequence 
  129.     This button allows the player to skip certain non-player-action  
  130. sequences. 
  131.  
  132. space bar    - To pause game 
  133.     This will pause and unpause the game. 
  134.  
  135. + key    - Text speed-up 
  136.     This will speed up the text in the game. 
  137.  
  138. - key - Text slow-down 
  139.     This will slow down the text in the game. 
  140.  
  141. Ctrl-S    -    Toggle Sound (internal speaker only)
  142.     This will turn on and off the sounds coming from the internal speaker.  
  143.  
  144. Ctrl-R    -    Screen Scroll Toggle
  145.     This allows the player to choose a scrolling style.
  146.  
  147. Ctrl-C    -    Quit to DOS 
  148.     This will Quit to DOS.  Make sure you save your game before you use  
  149. this command.
